My Students

"In wisdom gathered over time I have found that every experience is a form of exploration." - Ansel Adams As a teacher, each day I lead my class on an exploration of the curriculum, the community, and the world.

My students are a lively and entertaining group of fourth graders.

This year's class is very creative and artistic. They enjoy expressing themselves through visual and dramatic arts. Our school is an exciting place to learn. The students, parents, teachers, administrators, and staff support each other; creating a strong, involved, and dynamic educational community.

My Project

Focusing on the life of Ansel Adams allows us to reach across our 4th grade curriculum. He was a Californian whose life focused on his art and beyond to the environment. His stunning photographs of California's wilderness can be studied for their artistic beauty, for their geographic features, and for their environmental significance. Students will learn about the interplay between Adams' work and the preservation of California's wilderness. They will learn about his part in the history of our state. Students will study his photographs and learn about the techniques of photography. As we read about Ansel Adams' life and study his art, students will be inspired to create two projects. For one, they will choose an Adams' photograph to copy. In oil pastels they will re-create the landscape, emphasizing geometric shapes and using vivid colors. The other project will be a study of the elements of black and white photography, culminating in a nature shoot for each student.

Studying Ansel Adams will allow us to explore the world of art, the world of nature, and the world around us.

We will delve deeply into California history and geography from a unique perspective, which will have a lasting impact on the students. They will express what they have learned through beautiful works of art that they can keep, enjoy, and remember for years to come.
