Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The majority of my students come from a Hispanic background. They love coming to school because they feel supported, and they have become accustomed to the sense of community exhibited at our school. Many of them live in the housing projects that are right across the street from the school, and many of them come from single/ working parents. Our school already has some programs in place such as Robotics, Science Clubs, Drama, Art and Music, but unfortunately the amount of students who can participate is very limited. I know my students would benefit from lessons in the Arts, and this is why I want to create another opportunity for them to experience the Arts in their very own classroom.

My Project

Our class needs art supplies such as pastels, watercolors, watercolor paper, and canvases. Having these materials available in the classroom will inspire my students to be creative, and they will allow for a rich experience with the arts. In the past years students have shown interest in art, and not having the materials accessible has been a downside. With these materials I can provide art lessons that will encourage them to explore the arts more in depth. My goal is to teach the whole child, and I feel that the arts is a big part of letting children express themselves. I have seen students flourish with arts, and I would like to provide more of these opportunities for my new group of students.
