My Students

My students read at a level far below grade proficiency. Many of them have not yet developed a love of reading. It is my goal to engage them with texts that are exciting and relevant to help inspire a lifelong appreciation for books.

My students are struggling readers and writers that really need extra support in achieving grade level proficiency.

Despite the occasional frustration, they are always willing to come in with a positive attitude and try hard. Many have vocalized a strong dislike for reading which must be addressed if there is any hope for them to thrive in high school and beyond in college.

My Project

These 25 copies of Enrique's Journey will allow my students to engage with high quality literature that is both relevant and accessible. We will do whole group reading, small group reading, and individual reading. We will use this text to work on understanding comprehension, inferences, and predictions.

It is my hope that these books will engage my students with text in a way they have never been able to connect with books before.

This text has many support materials online that will allow our class to make the most of this resource in the classroom. This donation will be used for years to come by hundreds of students.
