My Project

In my role as school librarian, I ensure that our students are exposed to a wide variety of genres through displays and genre study reading assignments. I also create cultural awareness month displays and projects. Students loved the wide variety of biographies that were available for them to choose for their Black History Month Project. Unfortunately, not many women's biographies were available when I took over managing the library this year. At the moment, are not enough books to fill our large Women's History Month display, and many of the women's biographies that we do have are old, out of date, and starting to fall apart due to frequent use. Even worse, there is not one biography of a woman in Spanish for our bilingual students and English Language Learners.

With your help, my students will have access to 51 of the extremely popular Who Is/Who Was biography series as they select four women to research during Women's History Month each March.

My students love the style of the covers of the Who Is/Who Was books, so they are always the first biographies chosen from displays. For some reason, the engaging covers make students more likely to read biographies, which is wonderful. Many of the books selected are hardcover or library bound, meaning that the books that your gift purchases will last for many years to come.
