Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work in a very large urban school. I service students Pre-K through 8th. Many of my students face the struggles of surviving in a major city - violence, poverty, and lack of resources. They are exposed to trauma on a daily basis.

I seek to provide them with an environment where they always feel supported and encouraged to strive for their very best.

Additionally,​ many of my students come from homes where Spanish is the primary language. Not only do they have to learn basic academic skills, they're also learning English.

The demands of home and school life combined with the effects of COVID-19 are often overwhelming. My students need to learn how to just be kids!

My Project

I am fortunate to work with all grade levels at my school! I am the social worker and I do have a large case load. These materials will be used during small group sessions to help students with impulse control and identifying emotions.

These books are so wonderful in explaining to young students that all emotions are normal and that we all have them.

The strategies that are offered in these books have helped after just one reading! The posters and curtain are needed for the older students I work with.

The older students will use the inspirational posters to identify and express emotional triggers, as well as be involved in conflict resolution strategies. These materials will make for a kinder world!
