My Students

At the front of my classroom is the quote, "Exceed Expectations!" I always encourage my students to go beyond what is expected of them and strive to always work harder, practice more, be better, and to go beyond what teachers, parents, coaches, and friends expect out of them. My class is a diverse group of curious, active, and determined students.

I strive to create a happy and comfortable classroom where children can enjoy learning and each other.

My students aspire to do their best in school and they are very interested in technology. I enjoy placing technology in their hands so they can use it in many ways on a daily basis. Our school qualifies as a moderate poverty school.

My Project

My students enjoy learning and hearing about my summer trips to help teach students their age in the Mathare Valley slum of Nairobi, Kenya. They are shocked to hear about the incredible poverty these children deal with, however they are just as amazed at hearing about the resiliency, determination, and love of education that that these children have. I want my students to have a better appreciation of the fact that no matter where in the world a person is born, people are basically the same and that even if someone comes from a different culture and or even a different continent, we can learn from the examples of others.

I want my students to learn not only about the continent of Africa, but the inventiveness, problem solving abilities, and inspirational journeys that children and adults have undertaken in Africa that are highlighted in these books.

I would like for my students to learn about role models that come from other places and to see that people use their creativity throughout the world to solve the challenges that are often placed in front of them and that these are universal values.
