Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a Kindergarten teacher. I have 18 students in my class. My school is located in a high-need community.

We need an Inspiration Station teaching easel. The easel I’m currently using is more of an art easel. It has no storage space. I can not put out the materials I need for the whole day. Before each lesson, I have to stop and gather the books, chart paper, markers, etc. that I need in order to complete the lesson. It does not have a dry erase board so I have to prop a portable dry erase board on the ledge. In order to do Shared Reading with big books, I have to prop the big book on top of the portable dry erase board and then use a big clip to keep it from falling over. When it is time to turn the page, I have to undo the clip and then clip it to the easel again. Imagine how much time is wasted. It is particularly difficult to do fluency practice when I have to keep stopping to readjust the clip on the easel.

Children at this age have very short attention spans. It is very important to keep up a momentum. It is very hard to keep them focused when I have to keep stopping to take out materials for the lesson during the lesson. If I had a better easel, I would be able to cover more during the day. I would be able to spend more time teaching as opposed to setting up the stage for teaching. We need an Inspiration Station. An Inspiration Station is a teaching easel designed in collaboration with teachers. It comes with lots of storage space. I would not have to worry about transitioning between lessons because I have to stop to get materials. Everything can be stored on the easel! During Reading Center Time, students could actually use the easel to practice concepts introduced. As my room is very small, this would be a great space saver. If I had more space I could create more center activities.

It would be wonderful if you could inspire my students learning with this Inspiration Station.
