My Students

My students are amazing. I know, you probably hear this a lot but seriously, they are phenomenal. They attend a Title 1 school in the Bronx where they each receive free breakfast and lunch daily.

Our students often have the odds stacked against them but they do not let this define them.

Our students are creative, innovative and full of life, but this is only part of what makes them so phenomenal. Our kids are continually defying odds. We have the unique ability of being a public school with a mission to help the world around us in regards to wildlife conservation. Even in an urban setting our students are constantly coming up with ideas to not only help get the word out about species in peril but also to help in their own neighborhoods.

My Project

My classroom is constantly bursting with creativity but we do not always have enough technology to go around as we currently only have 2 cameras. We would love to have more cameras to add to our collection so that photographing and video making could be done with greater ease. I am asking for four Nikon digital cameras, three photography books, a pack of cardstock. With more cameras, my students would not need to wait as long for another group to finish before they creating their own pieces. I know it seems funny using cameras in science but I am lucky enough to teach conservation science. In this class we learn about and explore the world around us.

With more cameras my students will be able to go on more visual adventures and continue to find ways to display the nature that surrounds them.

Being that we reside in an urban setting it is imperative that my students get outside and find the beauty that is right outside their doors. With more cameras we will be able to keep creating projects that allow my students to make conservation m ended films and fliers. They will also be able to track and capture the beauty that might otherwise go unseen in their backyards.
