This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My 5th grade students have inquisitive minds and are eager to explore the world around them. They enjoy all the core subjects, especially using computers and iPads. We presently have one computer in our classroom, and I am sure my struggling students will be able to excel and work independently.
My wonderful 5th grade students range from students excelling on grade level to those who are having difficulty in some of the common core subjects.
Half of my class consider English as their second language. My students speak French, Arabic, Spanish, and Chinese and come from countries all around the world. Many of their parents work minimum wage jobs to support their families and cannot afford to provide computers, iPads, or Internet services in their home. Our school is located in what is considered one the highest poverty areas in the country. Their parents and the students do not have much when it comes to materialistic items, but what they do have is the driven enthusiasm to learn.
My Project
With an addition of one Apple iPad, the students will work in groups of two or three. They have access to several educational websites such as Brainpop and Starfall as well as several ebooks. My struggling math students will have access to differentiated lessons as well as visual and vocal feedback. By taking small steps to accomplish a goal in math or reading, my students will gain a sense of pride and independence while having fun at the same time.
An Apple iPad will give my struggling students a sense of independence and pride as they master some of the math and reading skills that they may be having problems with.
My 5th graders are considered seniors in our school and will graduate in June 2016. They will learn how to take photos and make iMovies to aid them in making a portfolio for their year end culminating portfolio. An iPad will also enable the students to explore the world around them just by touching an iPad screen.
