My Students

What do you remember most when you were in kindergarten? Play and the things that were fun come to mind! Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning. My students need instant learning centers to reinforce the learning that takes place daily.

This year I have a combination class of Transitional K and Kindergarten students.

They are inquisitive, fun loving, adorable 4 and 5 year Olds. My students attend a school in California, and they come from predominantly low income families. Most of my students live in high poverty. All of the students at our school participate in our free breakfast and lunch program. The majority of my students are learning English as a second language. Most of their parents do not speak English at home and are unable to help reinforce the necessary skills needed to learn to read. My students are excited to learn, but do not have many educational resources or opportunities outside my classroom.

My Project

My students need the instant learning centers in order to practice what they are learning daily in our districts language arts program. My students need instant learning games such as the Building Words Instant Learning Center and CVC Word Work Center in order to practice the skills presented in class. My students have varying abilities levels and some have special needs. The instant learning centers (Flip/Feel alphabet,creating sight words, sound switch, etc.) will provide differentiated instruction for these students. The writing centers will allow children to practice writing letters, trace simple words and use stamps to make sentences. The learning centers will reinforce building sight words, rhyming, beginning sounds and more. Having these new centers in our classroom will enhance the learning that takes place daily. The students will receive hands-on experience through play as they work independently or in a small group with these learning centers.

My students need a variety of literacy learning centers in order to extend and support their learning.
