Inquiry Based Science to Promote STEM Skills & Leaders
Help me give my students the ability to perform inquiry based AP science experiments to answer their questions to the science phenomenon by studying soil, water, and toxins influence on animal & human populations.
My students are part of a Title I school in lower Manhattan. They come from a variety of backgrounds and parts of the city. They are involved in becoming worldly citizens and are looking forward to experiencing learning to the fullest. These lab experiences will allow students to see science and its applications as they start to see possible STEM careers and studies. Students will use these experiences to build their reasoning and analytical skills. They will be skills that will help them build lifelong success as STEM learners and leaders.
My Project
These materials will allow students freedom to explore setting up and carrying out their own scientific experiments and connect their learning to previous knowledge and their own backgrounds. I always push my students to connect their backgrounds to the classroom in all their learning.
My students will be able to direct their own studies on created questions in environmental science and biology.
This will allow the students to see the open ended nature of science and actually put the scientific process in action. These experiments may also open students eyes up to what careers in these fields involve. The ability to see that there is not just one "right" answer to a scientific question.
