This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We are performing our off off-Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast Jr in the South Bronx! This program helps our students stay off the streets after-school and showcase their amazing acting and singing talents! They are all so very excited to put on a show for the younger students and their families. The Middle Schoolers have been practicing so much and so very hard.
Our school is located in a very low-income poverty level in the Bronx.
Many of the students live in temporary housing and need somewhere to be after school. Some aspire to be in theater and this provides a safe and welcoming environment to cultivate and hone their talents.
Students who join this our play productions often shine and their experience serves to boost their self-esteem and give them a sense of pride in what they do. While rehearsing they are learning music, reading, stage presence, creativity, and becoming a theater family in many ways.
