Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are visual learners. They learn by doing and by interacting with the subjects we discuss in class physically and mentally. With the implementation of the Common Core Standards, students need to have documents and materials that they can see and manipulate.

My students come from a low-income community where they face many challenges.

Despite that, many of them show up to school on a daily basis and try their hardest to make their families proud. Even when they feel that education is pointless, many of them continue to put forth their best effort because they know it is what their parents want. However, by the end of their 9th grade year, students begin to realize that education can help them make their parents proud but more importantly, can give them a better life.

My Project

My students need a printer, toner and a drum unit. Working printers/copiers are essential in today's classroom. Currently, teachers in my school struggle to have a working printer in the class. As one of the few remaining year-round schools, we often have to share printers as well as the toners and drums required to keep them working. Having a printer in the class allows students the opportunity to print essays, pictures, or other required materials for assignments or projects. Additionally, it allows the teacher the opportunity to print handouts or other assignments for classroom instruction.

With a working printer/copier in the class, students will have access to technology that will aide in their learning.

They will be able to print required assignments in class instead of having to leave the classroom and miss valuable instructional time. As a teacher, I will also be able to print emergency copies of handouts and assignments.
