My Students

My fourth and fifth graders want to create, animate and share. They want to participate in the InfyMaker Award contest. It is not very often that my kids get the opportunity to work together on meaningful, creative project. They need resources that our school cannot afford to begin their project.

My school is close to two military bases and a significant number of my students are dependents of deployed military personnel.

Our small K-6 public school is over 40 years old and many of my wonderful students are deemed at-risk. Over 60% of my students are eligible for free and reduced price breakfast and lunch but we do not qualify for Title 1. My students are very diverse and many of my wonderful students are deemed at-risk. Our student population is 39% Anglo; 14% African American/Black; 16% Alaskan Native and American Indian; 7% Asian; 6% Hispanic; 3% Filipino; 15% multiracial. Recently, my students began to talk about how to help other students learn math concepts by making animated movies. They want to participate in the InfyMaker Awards Program. I want to help them. They need something simple to begin their journey. They need StikBot figures and resources which our school cannot afford.

My Project

I work with a creative group of 4th and 5th grade ELL (English Language Learner) students who have no access to technology outside of school but they want to participate in the InfyMaker Awards Program. They started brainstorming what they could do. They began to talk about how they could help other students learn basic math concepts by making animated movies. I want to help them but they need something simple to begin their journey. They need StikBot figures and resources which our school cannot afford. I am asking for a HUE Animation Studio, 2 Zing StikBot action figures sets, 2 Stopmotion Explosion kits with cameras and books, a Stikbot starter kit, a studio 3 kit. My students will assemble this equipment and use it to make short animated movies. They will learn storyboarding, digital storytelling, stop action animation, green screen techniques and while deepening their understanding of math concepts.

My students cannot wait to start creating animated math movies to teach basic math concepts to other kids .

My 4th and 5th graders plan to use StikBots, stop action animation, and green screen technology to create the movies. They are so excited and are looking forward to using the new resources from this project. Please help them get the materials they need!
