Help me give my students new chromebooks because in a class size of 12, we only have 4 working laptops. These laptops are all outdated, missing keys, slow to start up, and barely hold a charge.

My Students

I have the privilege of teaching brilliant 7th and 8th graders with various ABILITIES. I teach two separate classes, both of which are in self contained 12:1:1 settings; every student holds an IEP. In both of these classes, I also have several students who are English language learners as well as some who are living in temporary housing (shelters). My students come from low income families and do their best to stretch what little they have to be a lot.

Despite how incredibly gifted my students are, their low efficacy beliefs about themselves prevent them from performing to the best of their abilities.

I try my best to maintain high expectations for my students while also meeting them where they are both academically and emotionally. At times, it's hard to push them to new heights due to various barriers such as financial strains as well as lack of resources in our school.

My students work best when they are given hands on materials, technology, opportunities to research and explore, and project based learning. Many of my students are artists and very creative.

My Project

I teach both math and science. We use an I-ready program that allows students to work independently on lessons that are tailored specifically to them based on their levels and also tracks their progress. In addition to I-ready, I also love to use nearpod in my classroom. The students absolutely love using this website. It allows me to share my lesson in real time with the students on their individual screens. It then allows the students to respond to various prompts either through quizzes, drawing a picture, or submitting a written response. This gives me instant data on my students. It engages them and allows them to participate more.

We know that our students learn best through technology and hands on experiences, but how can we do so without the tools?

My students love to work in stations. They love project based learning. They love conducting research during science class. Unfortunately, I have more students than laptops. The 4 laptops that I do have are out of date. Our microsoft is from the year 2010 and we are now in 2019. We use windows 2009. Many of the keys have fallen off. It breaks my heart to force my students to work like this.

My students don't have laptops at home. Therefore, I can't assign too many assignments that require the use of the internet or a computer at home. Instead, it has to be done in school
