My Students

We are a small suburban public school in a large California school district. My second graders are curious, inquisitive and full of energy. They come to school ready to learn each day. They are a fantastic bunch of kids!

Our community's support is a vital part of our educational program.

I am constantly amazed by my students' compassion, curiosity, willingness to learn, thirst for knowledge and information, and perseverance. I want to encourage my students to be the best people they can be for our world around us.

My Project

Our class goes to computer lab only one time per week for one hour. Over the last few years, we've begun using Project Based Learning (PBL) and integrating internet resources for our classroom biography and animal research projects, and using apps to build literacy and math skills.

Currently we only have 4 functional iPads in our classroom, but we need 2 more iPads for each student in small group rotations to have equitable use of these devices.

There are 6 students in each group so you can see how having only 4 devices poses a logistical problem.

I do not take it lightly that we're asking for 2 iPads. What happened to our other devices? In the past, we had some older generic tablets donated, which companies were getting rid of, and now those devices have reached the end of their useful life. They constantly crash or lose battery power in the middle of group rotations, which is disruptive and frustrating. Since this is an expensive purchase, I hope that crowd-funding will help us to reach our goal of purchasing 2 iPads for my students by the end of October. My students and I appreciate all the help we can get to fully fund this project!!!

iPads enable us to connect with the world in new ways and build literacy, math and technological skills. Our school has purchased licenses for LEXIA and ST Math apps and we want to fully utilize these teaching resources, too, any chance we get. It's especially important because, since not all of my students have access to these apps at home, they can log in their minutes during school.
