This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Keep us busy! When the temperature doesn't allow my students to enjoy their recess time outdoors, they have indoor recess. My students need board games and materials that will keep them engaged while enjoying their indoor recess time.

My students are an amazing group of scholars who are from diverse cultural backgrounds.

They are amazing inner city students who come to school everyday ready to become smarter and follow our school's expectations. Our school is the largest K-8th grade non-high school in the city. Many of our students are eligible for free or reduced-price meals and live near the school. We are lucky to have music and art as part of the learning that takes place. Students at our school also get recess everyday along with physical education in order to keep their bodies and minds ready for learning. Our students are bright children who deserve more.

My Project

By having many different board games to chose from along with other arts and crafts materials, my students will still be able to enjoy their recess time. These materials will enable them to continue to work on their social skills in similar ways they do when they are playing kick ball or tag. With board games like Trouble, Sorry and Jenga, they will learn turn-taking skills, sharing materials, team work, and spend time enjoying each others company.

When the winter elements make going outdoors impossible, my students need to exert their energy in fun and engaging ways.

Having access to board games and arts and crafts materials will provide them with this chance.
