Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My fifth graders are currently learning about the types of boats used from the Indo-Pacific region; understanding and looking at the technological advancements made by the indigenous groups of this area starting from 5000 BC to the early 16th century. Projects are an integral part of the class's learning process as it deepen their connections to the content and allows them opportunities to work collaboratively, plan, problem-solve, and execute.

Our current project is carving a variety of different boat models and testing out their speed, buoyancy, and practical use.

Half the class are ESL students; providing them with an opportunity to learn and produce work that does not solely rely on speaking and writing in English is extremely important. This class has exceptionally visually creative students with excellent problem-solving skills. Please help us with our next endeavor.
