My Students

The diversity within my classroom​ and school as a whole represents a growing trend in our society: we could at minimum display over 64 different countries' flags if we represented each one. Their backgrounds are as extensive and varying, enriching our school for the better.

Many of my students are learning English as a second language and for many, my classroom will be their first experience in a school.

Setting the stage for a positive learning experience is what the early years of education are all about! It is my job as their teacher to facilitate their learning, to provide them with a safe place to learn, make mistakes, and grow.

My Project

My kindergarten students come to me from so many walks of life and varied experiences, I cannot sum it up in my allotted word limit. The shared commonality is that they are so excited to learn and are all so deserving of every opportunity that can be provided to them. As we continue through the pandemic, learning opportunities and celebrations have to get a new spin put on them, as I discovered last year. The proposed project materials will allow for me to equip my students with the materials needed for centers on an individual basis, rather than shared centers of previous years.

Hands-on, engaging activities bring learning to life.

By offering students the ability to use their own centers, we can allow them that fun and creative learning experience they deserve when beginning school! Play-Doh for phonics and phonemic awareness tasks, art supplies for reading response and extension activities, and the much-needed cardstock to print out the task cards and containers to make for easy sanitizing and portability.

The last part of this project is something I have found bolsters excitement in the classroom and fosters the community that we build over the year: the special celebration cups. Every child deserves to be celebrated on a special day. Most often, it is their birthday; however, if any child does not celebrate their birthday, their supplies will be used to celebrate another milestone they achieve throughout the year.
