My students need activities to work on during their independent work station time. Many activities require teacher assistance for student success. However, it is vital for students to gain independence for transition into general education.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I teach the ABLE (Academic and Behavior Learning Environment) program at Jessup Elementary. The majority of my students are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder as well as other disabilities. In addition, our school is a Title 1 school, which means most of our families are economically disadvantaged and on free or reduced lunches.
Furthermore, they live in an area that was heavily impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
New independent learning stations would greatly help them to become more self-reliant during the school day.
My Project
Independent work stations are a very vital part of a self-contained learning environment. Students rely so heavily on teacher assistance to acquire and maintain skills. However, our goal is always to help the student be as independent as possible.
These work stations will be used in the classroom to facilitate independence by providing colorful, engaging activities that students will want to do.
These will be given to students during rotation times after the skills have been taught by the teacher. Students will then complete the file folder activities independently in order to maintain those skills.
In addition to learning, students will gain confidence in their ability to start and finish work tasks alone. These skills will then prove invaluable towards our ultimate goal of mainstreaming students into the general education setting.
