Independent Self Regulation to Promote Improved Academics

Help me give my students the ability to have a sensory calming moment so that they can be refocused to learn. This sensory fish lamp, will provide my students the opportunity to self regulate when they need it.

My Project

As a pediatric OT, working in a lower income area and with students with special needs, one of largest struggles the kids have is the ability to self regulate when they are feeling overwhelmed or frustrated. This is a skill that is worked on everyday, to help the students be able to overcome their struggles and be in a state where they are ready to learn.

As an OT my role is to help promote independent self regulation skills, to build the students self confidence and show them that they can do anything they set their minds to, and that they are in control.

With a donation to this project, this sensory lamp can be setup in a quiet space in my therapy room, to provide a calm down space for my students, to give them a tool to use in order to help them calm down and refocus. They can sit and look at it and use the calming glow to process their emotions and have a moment to contemplate the next steps they need to take to be able to refocus on the tasks they need to complete. A donation to this project will provide my students a way to be more successful with their academics and also promote self confidence knowing that they have a way to calm themselves down. Any support would be very greatly appreciated, more than words can express. The students will be very excited to use this lamp to help them learn more, as they are motivated to learn and want to make their teachers proud.
