Increasing Literacy Through a Class Library and Book Talks
Help me give my students a diverse library of books to read. I host book talks each week to share with my students the books I love that they can then check out from my classroom library.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I teach at a large public school with a diverse population of over 4,000 students. Each year, I personally teach 150 to 180 students, and I am consistently surprised by their drive and creativity.
My students come from a wide variety of different cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds.
While many of my students struggle daily to get the supplies they need for school, they all work hard in my class. All my students embrace the positive and supportive culture I try to build each year in my classroom, and they love when we take on learning in new and exciting ways. My students love to challenge the status quo, and I hope this project will help them do just that.
My Project
I believe that students really do love to read, they just need help finding books that connect with them. Because of this, I do 5-minute book talks in my class each week to share with my students the books I have read and to help them find the stories that will make them addicted to reading.
By adding more books to my library I will not only be able to share more stories with them that they may love but I will also be able to immediately hand the book over to a student so they can take that book home and read it.
So far this year, I have had 15 students take home books from my library but I need more titles and a greater diversity of genres. The books on this list were picked based on student interests and identifying genres that were lacking in my class library. By funding this project you will help me create lifelong readers and lifelong learners one book a week, five minutes at a time.
