Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am moving class from a mild/mod to moderate/severe special education class! My DonorsChoose project focuses on two key components of an autism specific class: visual supports and sensory items.

The sensory items included will help my students to feel calm and focused as they work to master new skills.

Sensory toys can be a great way to provide relief for kids sensitive to touch, sound, sight, and even certain textures. Children diagnosed with autism often experience sensory processing disorder - which can impact their ability to impact with everyday objects effectively.

Visual supports facilitate attention-getting, make ideas and concepts more concrete, aid in recall of verbal information, serve as effective prompts, cue appropriate behavior, and ultimately facilitate independence.
