My Students

Hello! I am a 6th-grade teacher at a small charter school in Middletown, Delaware. I have a wonderful group of students with a wide variety of learning styles, backgrounds, personalities, and interests. My students are creative, clever, and are my inspiration. 6th grade is a pivotal year for so many reasons. I always hope to instill a love for reading in my students during this year of growing. The transition to middle school becomes one of learned responsibility and independence. It is wonderful to see the transformation that takes place during their 6th grade school year.

My Project

Providing my students with a green screen studio would allow them to take their creativity with projects and book reviews to a new level. The best way to determine a student's understanding of learned material is through projects. Projects are a great assessment tool to use rather than paper and pencil tests. Projects allow students to use their imagination and creativity. Students will be able to use the green screen, lighting, and microphones as they record their presentations. They will then edit the video on our class iPad to change the background to match their presentation. In science, students learn about catastrophic events and end the unit by researching a specific event. They then present information on this topic. Students would be able to use the green screen studio to create a news cast of their event. They could add real images of their location, news anchor desk, in the field footage, etc. The possibilities are endless. In Language Arts, students would be able to immerse themselves in the world of their book's setting as they share a summary with their classmates, making reading and sharing about reading fun!
