This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are super inquisitive and hardworking! They are 9th graders taking Biology. My school is located in a high-poverty, high-risk area of Southern California. Our student population is about 96% Hispanic/Latino and over 80% participate in the free or reduced-price lunch program. Despite the economic challenges that many of my students face, they are eager to learn and persevere. For many of them, it is their dream to graduate from high school and be the first in their family to attend college.
My Project
In this virtual learning environment, it is helpful to have digital tools that can keep students engaged. Nearpod allows teachers to create interactive lessons. It includes a variety of engaging activities, such as games, matching, virtual tours, polls, discussion boards, quizzes, and much more. I have been using Nearpod in my classroom, and my students love it! Unfortunately, I am out of space with the free version and so I can't create new lessons without deleting my old lessons. I would love to continue using Nearpod, but it's not something my school is able to purchase at this time. Hopefully, you can help us.
