Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students consist of inner city children that come from low-income families, some are even homeless. As a teacher in an urban district, I work with four and five year-old students ranging in levels of development. I have several students with special needs (IEPs) that are currently mainstreamed into my general education classroom. One student in particular currently has a personal aide to help support her in her daily school-related tasks.

My student population consists of inner city children mainly coming from low income families.

We are a dual-language school where students learn English and Spanish. We are proud to be a national school of character!

My Project

LeapPads are a wonderful tool in the preschool classroom to reinforce skills being learned in the classroom such as letters, sounds, math skills, scientific inquiry, social studies skills, etc. LeapPads are a vehicle for students to infuse technology into their learning in a developmentally appropriate manner.

The wonderful thing about using this technology is that it helps reinforce all the skills we are learning in the classroom in a safe manner as students are not able to surf the internet and drift away from a task they may be working on.

During work time, students will be able to explore numerous skills through the use of LeapPad tablets. The Leap Frog Letter Factory is one excellent program that enhances letter and sound acquisition in order to build oral language and phonological awareness skills. Being that our students are three and four years old, it is best to download appropriate games for each device using the gift cards requested. Having the games downloaded is safer than placing a physical game in each device as this can offer an opportunity for a child to pull the game out and potentially lose it. It also allows multiple children to play the same game.

We are also requesting a few extra headphones as these are fragile and often break easily. Having backup ensures that students can enjoy their tablets without disturbing their friends during work time.

The use of LeapPads in the classroom will give the children a playful way to acquire learning through the use of technology and ultimately grant them a sense of success in excelling in the foundation of their early education.
