My Project

I am a teacher for a special education high school for students with Autism and other developmental disabilities. Our school is co-located in a building with 2 other general-education high schools. We are looking to foster inclusivity and kindness by creating a weekly club to bring the students from all schools together based on a common interest- video games. This project will not only teach my students how to "give back" to the entire school community, but also teach them valuable social skills such as initiating and maintaining conversations, turn-taking, and flexibility. It will also teach the general education students to become accepting of students with Autism and other disabilities.

Help my students develop community service skills by creating an inclusive video game club that will be open to all students within the entire school community, regardless of disability or not!

My students will volunteer to develop this club by loading and installing all the games, pairing all of the controllers, and creating posters to advertise and welcome all students to the weekly club! They will maintain the sign-up sheet, and monitor use to ensure all students are taking turns and getting to know one another.
