This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Mr. Rogers said, "Anyone who does anything to help a child in his life is a hero to me." Thank you for being a hero to my students.

I am a passionate National Board Certified special education high school teacher.

Our school is a Title I school serving a diverse population. The students I work with are determined and strive to persevere through social, emotional, and academic challenges. My Community-Based Instruction (CBI) class has worked on the yearbook staff, attended school activities, volunteered in the community, and served on the (ASB) Associated Student Body. They excel with movement and hands-on experiences. I am blessed to be their teacher and strive to encourage students beyond their greatest expectations.

I am the case manager to an amazing group of students with cerebral palsy. These students are wheelchair users, use an AAC device to communicate and have limited mobility. In a large high school, it can be difficult for these students to nurture meaningful friendships. That's where the inclusive video game cafe steps in. This is an opportunity for me to open my doors at lunch, allowing students to laugh, talk, connect and begin to learn about each other's common interests. As students develop friendships, they will also begin to develop and learn about video game design. These interests can be explored further in a game design class at school. These supplies, Xbox, family friendly games, controllers and cords are just what my students need to begin their inclusive video game cafe. My next step is finding adaptive controllers for my students to use in their cafe. Thank you for making this dream a reality. Amazing!
