Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a dedicated National Board Certified Education Specialist working in a high school environment. Our Title I school serves a diverse population, and I am inspired by the determination of my students as they navigate social, emotional, and academic challenges. In my Community-Based Instruction (CBI) class, we have had the opportunity to engage in various activities, including joining the yearbook staff, participating in school events, volunteering in the community, and serving on the Associated Student Body (ASB). My students thrive in movement and hands-on experiences, and I am truly honored to be their teacher, striving to encourage them to surpass their greatest expectations.

Inclusion Matters!

Last year, I launched the Inclusive Video Game Cafe, a lunch club aimed at building friendships and creating accessible gaming opportunities for students who use wheelchairs. Some students face mobility challenges and can only participate using adaptive switches, which facilitate movements or actions within the game.

This portable Smart Board will allow students to project their video games, such as Nintendo Switch Mario Brothers and Atari, onto the 32-inch tablet. It will provide a clear picture of their games and continue to nurture peer-to-peer friendships, and eventually launch an esports team. The portable tablet will also support small group learning centers, offering students the chance to engage in real-world learning. Thank you for supporting this amazing addition to the Inclusive Video Game Cafe.
