My Students

My students are predominantly EC (extraordinary children), meaning they have learning disabilities, as well as ELL (English language learners who are mostly in their first year in the country). I have been working to try to reach my students and all of their individual needs. I try to provide students with the best opportunity to make them feel a part of their learning experience. I also include cutting/pasting/taping activities.

I enjoy creating activities for students that require and allow them to feel like they have a significant part in the learning in my classroom.

I spend the majority of my money creating resources with colorful paper, scissors, glue, lamination paper (for students to write and erase on), notebooks, markers, and folders. Since a lot of these students struggle with a foundation, it is important to make sure they feel like they are taking a role in their learning.

My Project

One thing that has really helped my students engage is allowing them the opportunity to create interactive notebooks, along with using resources I've found online to help make learning fun (like digital escape rooms and color by numbers). I work in a Title I school and a lot of my students, as well as the population of the school, are English Learning and Students with Learning Disabilities. Using these interactive notebooks helps to differentiate and encourage learning.

Not only do the journals in my classroom help subside hyperactive behaviors, but they allow structure in a "fun" way.

They were constantly stimulated through the use of their device, as well as other technology (such as their phones) at home. Using interactive lessons, I have found a way to stimulate students. They feel involved in the learning process. All notes are hands-on. I use a variety of different techniques for interactive notes, including stickers, foldable, doodle notes, etc. Every day is resources and notes are different. All students are given whiteboards with dry erase markers, scissors, markers, glue sticks, tape, rulers, and/or colored pencils. I try to provide all materials for students so that parents do not feel the burden of providing school supplies. While this helps families of my students out, being a first-year teacher, I spend the majority of my paycheck to make students' needs are met.

Using interactive journals encourages students to stay chronological/organized. They are also able to keep track of their notes in a way where things don't get lost in the process, so when they are working at home, they are easily able to follow their notes. It has been a great learning experience for me. I appreciate you for reading about my classroom and my goal of influencing students for lifelong success.
