Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

After teaching ESL abroad for the past 7 years, immigrating to the United States, and graduating with a California teaching credential, I am *finally* ready to welcome my first class of 25 students on American soil!

Take a peek inside our 4 walls and you will find the most richly diverse space where students are speaking multiple languages with multiple abilities across many races and ethnicities - all sharing one common goal - the pursuit of knowledge.

Our school is a K-5, Title I, public school, with a population of over 900 students with our entire school qualifying for the free breakfast and lunch program in a rural setting. With full bellies and eager minds, the students are ready to learn, engage, play, and grow. I am reaching out to all of you for help to ensure we have the right tools and supplies to have a successful year!

My Project

As students are preparing to return to school after 12 months of distance learning, I want to ensure my library represents all students in my class. As well, I have included skin-tone crayons and construction paper for us to create an identity project after reading stories.

The books I have selected amplify Black voices, focus on Hispanic heritage, religious garments, language, immigration, Asian culture, Native American stories, LGBTQ+ communities, and much more.

As a first-year teacher, my library is limited and I need to ensure all of my students feel welcome and represented in my classroom, upon their return to the classroom.
