My Students

My students are an amazing group of third graders. They are enthusiastic about school and embrace everything we do in class. They love reading, P.E., math, and science. Our school is a kindergarten through eighth grade school, located in rural California. It houses 450 students. Our school is surrounded by forests and mountains and has daily visitors such as geese, turkeys, and deer.

Our school has a strong academic culture.

I want to maintain our strength in this area by continuing to provide materials to enrich my students' experiences.

My Project

I am requesting a hot water kettle, an Insta Pot, a griddle, food and plates, cups and utensils.

Inclusion through food is our attempt at creating dialogue and a calming environment for students who struggle with peer interactions.

Our third grade students struggle with having good social skills. They fight, they do not know how to be a contributing member of our school community and they struggle to use good listening and speaking skills.

My grade level partner and I are planning to implement cafe style activities to allow students to interact appropriately. Students will be instructed on proper ways to have discussions, how to be polite and how to handle disagreements.

The kettle, crock pot and griddle will be used to create the food. The serving utensils will be used to prep the food. The food items will be used in our food prep and as a snack for those who come to school hungry. Students will be part of the whole process, food prep, table decoration and serving.

Some of the foods that will be available will be hot chocolate, oatmeal, yogurt and other healthy choice items.
