Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most people hold the belief that inner-city schools hinder the learning process, due to a lack of equitable experience and lack of resources. When our students walk through those doors every morning, they are transported to a place where possibility exists, where receiving support is not in question, where they aren't reminded of the harsh realities that exist for so many. I admire the outlook my students demonstrate.

They show up with a mindset of success and I respect their resilience.

My Project

With the winter months right here, it's starting to get harder and harder to get out of bed. For some of our middle school students who are responsible for getting themselves to school independently, the challenge is real! Our goal is to reduce the number of middle school students arriving to school late and not only reinforce the importance of attendance, but punctuality.

Our aim is to establish a daily reward system that incentivizes students in grades 6-8 to consistently arrive on time via our AM Attendance Raffle!

Every morning, students who arrive to class on time receive a raffle ticket to win a gift card (Amazon or Starbucks). One winner is chosen at the end of each day and recognized school-wide via school intercom system and morning announcements!
