Help Ms. Dawley

My Students

In this age of technology, we teach students how to use resources available to them. When my students have learned to navigate these resources, they share their understandings with their classmates. My goal is to help my students gain independence with the help of technology in the classroom.

My first graders have the potential to be anything they desire.

With engaging learning opportunities and motivating experiences that will boost their self-confidence, these students can more than exceed my expectations. One hundred percent of the students in our school are considered socioeconomically disadvantaged, and every student qualifies for free meals at school. Nine of my 24 students are English Language Learners coming from monolingual families. Two of my students require the use of assistive technology due to medical concerns. Ten of my students are emergent readers who are working toward mastering concepts of print. My goal is to ensure that the learning experiences that all of my students receive in my classroom are engaging and memorable.

My Project

iPads in the classroom will provide so many rich experiences for my students! These devices will allow for differentiated learning opportunities, project-based learning, and various assessment and data collection options that would otherwise not be possible. Students would be able to use the iPads in the classroom for independent or small-group learning stations. Perhaps a student needs practice with reading fluency; he could use the Voice Memo application to record and self-assess his reading fluency and accuracy. Maybe another student needs assistance with writing stories because she has trouble putting her thoughts on paper. There is an app for that. Another student might want to learn more about animals in the wild; there's an app for that. In groups, students can create presentations to share with their classmates; there's an app for that, too. With the Reflector application that I already have a license for, students can mirror their work to my computer to project and share!

Donations to this request will make a huge impact on student learning by providing the children with opportunities to use technology to make a lasting impression in this ever-advancing, technology-rich world!

The skills necessary for using the iPads in class can transfer to real-world situations since technology is being made so readily available in many aspects of our lives. With these iPads in the classroom, the learning will never stop!
