My Students

My 7th and 8th grade students are inquisitive and are always looking for a challenge. Students are eager to learn about money and finance management. We live in a high cost of living state. They are learning how important it is to research career options that will pay a living wage. We have studied stock investments and participated in the stock market challenge. It is exciting to see the students' reactions as they take interest and skills assessments that help indicate potential careers of interest. They are very motivated to explore to make good decisions for their futures. We next will jump into entrepreneurship and the opportunities that are possible. Many of our students come from families that own or work for small businesses. They are excited to try their hands at starting a school-based business.

It is important for students to understand business ownership as a possible income-producing career, and they are so excited to get hands-on experience in the business process.

We plan to market, sell, and manufacture food items they create.

My students are starting to discover how to manage money. Now they are ready to go to the next level and start a school-based business.

My Project

Students will create entrepreneurial experiences in designing a menu of items to sell as part of their class food truck project. Students will create food truck menu items to sell using Candery Cotton Candy maker, George Foreman Quesadilla maker and NutriChef Crepe maker. These tools will give them a variety of options to make creative cool food items for other students, teachers, parents, and community at a variety of venues and events.

Students will create, market and sell food truck dishes to sell in their school-based food-truck business with proceeds used to sustain the program and community service projects.

Students will be creative in making special food treats to sell during their food truck project and school events. Students will develop skills in marketing and selling their products. Students will learn methods of manufacturing and delivery of orders. Students will learn about cost of manufacturing, determine sales prices, and calculate profits. Students will determine items to make and sell to sustain the program and community service projects with profits. We will invite local food service businesses and community college to speak with students about the industry and training needed for a career. This will allow students to make connections to the real-world and know their training options. To determine their best food items to sell students will participate in a food cook-off to showcase their creations. Students will determine high need community service projects to support with their profits and time.
