Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school focuses on students of high academic needs. We are an elementary Title I school. The students within my school reside in a low, socio-economic environment and deal with various personal issues while simultaneously struggling to fulfill academic obligations. My classes incorporate a diverse ethnic mix of students. Students are of African/Black American, Latin, African, and a mix of other ethnic backgrounds. Classes consist of a small percentage of students on grade level and a very large percentage of below grade level students. Classes include special and general education students. In addition, there is an abundance of students who enroll as English Language Learners on all grade levels. I teach differentiated English Language Arts lessons daily within this diverse learning environment.

This year, I will be teaching literacy through theater arts (live instruction combined with remote learning).

I will also be teaching reading intervention at all grade levels (live and remotely). Theater will expose and allow young students to learn through figurative language, story elements, poetry, stage production, puppetry, music, and dance. They will read, write, listen, and speak through dramatic play, which will have a great learning impact on our student's backgrounds.

My Project

Upon returning to school this school year during the era of COVID 19, I will be teaching students in class, face-to-face and remotely. Some of the materials which I am requesting will help my students in the classroom during live instruction and at home during remote instruction.

The materials which I am requesting will help me maintain an effective hybrid/blended learning environment for me and my students.

I am seeking an air purifier to clean the air my students will be working in during live daily lessons. My school is not equipped with a ventilation system so I am required to keep my windows open and the air conditioner must be on at all times. My concern is keeping the air pure when the weather does not allow for open windows. I will also use it in my classroom library which is not near my classroom windows. I am requesting bottled water so that they will be able to independently quench their thirst without leaving their designated work areas. But most of all, I am requesting headphones for my students so that they will be able to use their computers at home and in class without being distracted or distracting others. Please help my students have what they need to continue this school year successfully.
