I need to be able to teach my students who are struggling with reading in an explicit and systematic way using lessons that are aligned with the Science of Reading.
I am hoping to provide teachers with a UFLI Foundations manual to be able to utilize the lessons that are available. The lessons in the manual offer a systematic and explicit way to teach phonics. They are scripted and include encoding, decoding, and reading passages. In the past, we have many readers who have shown growth using the UFLI lessons and materials. Having more manuals in our school and in the hands of teachers would allow for more students to receive this instruction. It would create a more equitable learning experience for all struggling readers as they work through the foundational skills that UFLI teaches. This would also create consistency between grade levels making it easier to track student progress and areas of need. UFLI has proven to be successful, I hope to be able to help more readers grow into confident independent readers!
