Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach kindergarten students at a school in the Bronx. I work in a Title One school with a variety of levels and needs in one classroom, including English Language Learners. Some of us are in school for the very first time, while some of us were previously in pre-k.

My classroom is a place where students interact with each other to learn and grow.

We are very creative, love to read books, and like to use a wide variety of sensory materials to learn our numbers and letters! Our favorite book is Pete the Cat, I Love My White Shoes. We always try our best to succeed and never give up!

My Project

My students are hands on learners- they love to show their thinking in many ways. One of the best way they learn is through centers and expressing their writing on whiteboards. When they use dry erase boards and markers it makes learning more fun! Our classroom has enough white boards and markers for each student, however, the only thing we are missing are erasers! Right now we use and recycle tissues to erase our work but this is not the most clean and environmentally friendly method. Having erasers for each student and for all of our centers will make life so much easier.

As my students become better readers, I am in need of more guided reading books as well.

In my classroom we do guided reading everyday. I meet with my different groups to do word work and read books based on their reading levels. As my students are becoming better readers it is important that my library is able to challenge and keep up with them.

My students are hard workers and would be over the moon with these erasers and books. The erasers would make writing cleaner, easier and more fun. While the guided reading books would allow me to to individualize reading instruction to meet the needs of each student.
