In Need of a Ceramics Program

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Currently, I teach high school art to 9th through 12th grade students. We are an arts based theme school. My art students have declared majors in the Visual arts and will hopefully graduate with an Arts' Endorsed Diploma. We are a high needs school with an extremely sparse budget for art supplies.

My students have come to this school mainly for an education in Visual art. I am the only art teacher and am working with limited supplies. This is my second year in the school and I am trying my best to give my students a well-rounded education in art. It is difficult to meet state standards and the Blueprints for the arts with the lack of supplies. We lack supplies necessary for a ceramics program.

We are in desperate need for ceramics/pottery supplies. Since we do not have a kiln, we are in need of air-drying clay, waterproofing glaze, cutting tools and finishing tools. These supplies will assist me in creating a ceramics program which I know my students would enjoy and benefit greatly from. My students would be able to create 3 dimensional figures to further their understanding of the human form. We will study units of Grecian ceramics, and create our own forms of pottery. This will give my students the opportunity to create objects from scratch with their hands. I have a large number of students who admire Tim Burton's movies and we could incorporate a unit of Claymation into the curriculum.

Any donations will be highly appreciated from myself and my students. We are a school where the arts are encouraged and highlighted. I want for my students to be able to experience all forms of art, especially 3 dimensional. Thank you for your support.
