Do you remember what it was like when you had art in school? The excitement of being able to create and use your imagination to express yourself? In today's school system, you are fortunate if you have art one period a week. Unfortunately, my art program has limited funds for supplies and resources.
I am a special education art teacher teaching to Pre-K through 5th Grade in New York.
My students are in a Title One School, some live in foster care and shelters, and to some, their school is their safe spot they call home. They are very eager to express themselves, and put their frustrations into their art. I find it a challenge to engage such a wide variety of age groups with learning disabilities, and complete projects in a timely way.
My Project
My students learn through differentiation. I teach to all types of learners, especially visual and tactile. There is a machine called a Cricut that cuts out a variety of different shapes through cartridges, that my students can use with my supervision, and add their own creativity. My students love to make collages and cards, and having a Cricut Machine to tote around would greatly enhance my program.
Having a Cricut cutting machine will be an invaluable tool to my art students.
It offers a wide variety of applications, and will bring current technology into my classrooms. Having the support from donors like you give me the help I need for my students. If I had this machine, I would purchase the cartridges to go with the machine through my own money. Please help my struggling young artists.
