Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my team are 9th to 12th graders. The school consists of mostly students of Latino background. Most students come from low-income homes with parents who need to work two jobs in order to make ends meet.

Despite their financial obstacles, students are determined to complete the LA Marathon.

They are grateful for any materials that we, as teachers, can provide for them. Workout equipment is definitely something students require to become better runners -- runners who WILL complete the Los Angeles Marathon.

My Project

The materials I am requesting are for a group of runners who spend 6 months preparing to run the Los Angeles Marathon. Training is not just about running. Strength training is also important to get them through this race.

My runners are left to work out on concrete areas or, often, damp grass.

This is due to the fact that the school's gyms are reserved for basketball and volleyball. This can cause injuries to muscles and joints. This can be prevented by using mats.

It is tough seeing runners face pain and injury during the season. These materials will aid students in strength training which will help prevent injuries.
