Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

In East Harlem we say TALK TO THE HAND? Energetic, enlightened and inspired educators are ?Thinking First? about special needs, English language learners and the general population. The newly formed Think First Theater Troupe from East Harlem is an interdisciplinary team, which includes my co-teacher and myself, a speech therapist and counseling professionals. We are positively affecting the social/emotional, multicultural, multi-linguistic and curriculum needs of children through puppetry. Learning, communication, language development and well-being are presented by way of a multi-sensory, engaging, active form of ?edu-tainment.? Captain Kangaroo meets Electric Company meets Sesame Street meets the Magic Garden meets P.T Barnum meets Ethical Humanism with a New York City flow sums up our Think First Theater Troupe. Our troupe works on our own time to create tightly written scripts, build scenery and practice voices and characterization. The artistry of ?puppeteering? is something that each and every one of us is excited about as we utilize this form of theater and communication to address diverse learning styles and students cultural make up. Presently we are targeting Pre-K ? 2nd grade. My K/1 bridge class is a constant audience for our Think First Theater productions due to the shows being held in my classroom. We strive to perform at least once a month. We seek your assistance in purchasing props and puppets with moveable mouths (animal and human) to build up a stable of characters, which will further enhance the quality of our production. Due to the limited space available in my closet, a durable trunk to store the puppets would be beneficial. As teachers we are always looking for ways to better ourselves as professionals, and a video camera would enable us to tape our productions and critique them at a later time. By critiquing our performances we will be able to convey our lessons more effectively to the students. Thank you so much for your support.
