Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

For the 24-25 school year, I will be teaching a self-contained classroom with our most vulnerable student population for the very first time. Most of my students read significantly below grade level. I want to create a sensory-friendly, family-style living room environment for my students, some of whom have never experienced such a thing at home. It is my hope and prayer that by doing so, they will be able to better self-regulate, feel loved, and most of all, develop a love for reading in any one of the cozy corners I hope to create.

In my sensory-friendly reading nooks, scholars will be able to choose a comfortable and quiet place to practice reading independently, as well as receive one one one phonics instruction tailored to their individual learning needs.

My goal is for each student to progress by a minimum of one instructional grade level by the end of the 24-25 school year.
