Improving our Sound!

My students need new mouthpieces and ligatures for their saxophones. Also, my students are starting to really be able to tune themselves, so a tuner for each section would allow student led tuning!

My Students

I work for under-served students in a school in North Philadelphia. We are a title one school with 90% of our students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Our kids go to school from 7:30-4:30 and on some Saturdays with one goal in mind... college. I am the lone arts teacher in this school teaching music where it is my job to provide a culturally relevant music program that brings joy to their day.

My students deserve a music classroom that brings joy and empowerment into their lives, that progresses their own personal narrative and infuses inspiration to their school day.

My band and music classes are a team and family, where students build musical skills while leading and promote their own ideas. My room is a place where students learn to refute the negative stereotypes they may encounter and build a positive culturally affinity.

My Project

My band this year is something incredible. The students are learning to tune on their own, balance and blend incredible well, while they play self-composed music with passion and intensity. I wish I could buy the nicest instruments for our kids. instruments that match they're level of performance. Unfortunately, this is just too expensive for my budget.

My saxophones are held back by their current equipment, so purchasing new mouthpieces and ligatures is the most cost-effective way to improve their sound.

Finally, as my kiddos are really starting to play in tune, having tuners that each section can independently use is necessary for their intonation independence.
