Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The items I’ve requested—ranging from comfortable seating and cozy rugs to new books and organizational tools—will create a more inviting and focused environment for reading. By having a dedicated space that feels welcoming, students are more likely to immerse themselves in books and become enthusiastic readers. Flexible seating options, such as beanbag chairs or floor cushions, help students find a comfortable reading posture, reducing distractions and promoting deeper concentration. Additionally, updated and diverse reading materials will broaden my students’ literary horizons and help them develop stronger vocabulary, comprehension skills, and critical-thinking abilities.

What are my goals for this project?

My primary goal is to foster a lifelong love of reading among my students. I want them to see our reading corner not just as a classroom space, but as an inviting sanctuary where they can discover new worlds and ideas. By creating an environment that sparks curiosity and encourages independent reading, I aim to improve overall literacy rates in my classroom, boost reading confidence, and support students’ academic growth across subjects. Ultimately, I hope this project helps each child see reading as an enjoyable and empowering activity, rather than just another classroom assignment.

What makes my students special?

My students are incredibly resilient, creative, and eager to learn. Many come from diverse backgrounds, and each one brings a unique perspective to the classroom. They support one another, celebrate each other’s achievements, and show remarkable kindness and determination when faced with challenges. By investing in their reading corner, you’re helping these young minds discover stories that mirror their own experiences, as well as stories that open doors to new possibilities. Their enthusiasm and open-hearted nature ensure that every donated item is put to its best use, making a meaningful difference in their academic journey and personal growth.
