Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a Title I charter school in east Las Vegas in which most students come from a low socioeconomic background who come from diverse cultural backgrounds. Despite the pandemic and economic challenges they face at home, they continue to be resilient and are eager to come to school.

I teach math to a total of 150 students with each class rotating each period.

This school year has been particularly challenging as 1 set of classes has been added to the rotation with students receiving 45-50 minutes of instruction each period. Students need interactive, hands-on materials to retain information. My class also needs support in their ability to become more mindful as the pandemic times have taken a toll on their mental and emotional well-being. They can also benefit from cleaning supplies to keep our class clean and organized.

My Project

The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students will all be used in our classroom. The various math manipulatives will be used to enhance their learning and retain their math skills. The cleaning supplies will be used to keep our class environment clean. The social and emotional learning materials will be used to support their mindfulness and learn various coping skills to help manage their thoughts and feelings with the hope of making better choices. The mobile board will be used in small groups to improve engagement.
