My Project

My teaching goal is centered around math. The students at our school will benefit greatly by becoming fluent in math strategies and basic math facts. First grade is where we teach the foundational skills that will stay with them for a lifetime. To improve the math skills of my 23 first graders, there are three sets of things I need.

A class set of dry erase markers, dry erasers, and dividers for testing will give my students the daily hands-on materials needed to improve their math skills.

We use dry erase boards and dry erasers every single day. Our current dry erase boards are old and in poor condition. The markers stain the boards and the boards don't wipe clean. We're using paper towels to erase, which is wasteful and ineffective. We really need new boards and erasers. We do assessments 3 to 4 days a week in order to collect the data that drives my instruction. The transition from instruction to assessment is unnecessarily long because the students have to change seats. Dividers will eliminate the need to change seats, thereby saving valuable instructional time, as well as making assessments less stressful for everyone.
