Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Unfortunately, most of my students don't have a computer at home. They only use one at school during Computer Day. They get very excited when it's computer day in class. They get to visit the computer lab once a week for 45 minutes.

My students come from a very low socioeconomic neighborhood.

They do not have computers at home; the only technology they come in contact with is at school. And they are very eager to learn and expand their knowledge of the world around them. They just need the resources to help them achieve their dreams.

My Project

I am asking for a MacBook for a my classroom. This device will allow the students to use the interactive material that our new curriculum has built in. The students will use the MacBook in their centers to play interactive reading games, watch grammar videos, practice their spelling and vocabulary words, read e-books, and take online reading tests from Scholastic Reading. The students will be put on a rotation schedule allowing each student time with the MacBook during the week. The MacBook be used to improve reading fluency, speech-to-text applications to help the reluctant writer, and applications like Science 360 to put up-to-date information in the hands of aspiring young scientists.

The student starts the MacBook easily, chooses an application, and is involved in a fun, game-like educational activity within minutes.

Often times the student is not aware that he or she is even learning. The MacBook will be used to help young children with reading readiness and beginning math skills.
