it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students are full of energy and always ready to learn, and as a first grade teacher, I have to keep the class fun and exciting for their shorter attention spans. My small bilingual class is very diverse. There are students from North and South America, Africa, and Europe. Some students have just arrived from non-English speaking countries and other are completely fluent. There are all types of learners, I have auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learners, so all lessons need to be accommodated to fit their needs and interests.
These 16 first graders are a small representation of the community we service.
Our school serves 82 % low income students, and many of those students come from all over the city. Some have commutes longer than an hour, and I want to make sure that when my students are in class, they can feel successful despite the obstacles they are faced with.
My Project
The chromebooks I am requesting are for students to use during work stations in the classroom. Many of my student are still learning letter sounds and are beginning to read cvc words. Some are beginning to read sight words, and having chromebooks will allow them to practice reading independently. I have students who are already fluent readers and could get challenged with higher level reading passages. Aside from reading, students also need to practice various math strategies such as adding doubles, using ten frames and using mental math. The curriculum can sometimes be very challenging and being able to play math games would keep them interested and practicing the strategies they have learned.
Many of my students do not have access to a computer at home, and knowing how to use that type of technology is very important in this time and age.
Using a chromebooks would help them prepare for online assessments they will need to take in the future such as the PARCC, in which they are required to read online. Having this technology in the classroom has become a priveledge but also a necessity in order to be successful, and would really benefit my students.
