Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my classroom are fourth graders. Our school is over seventy percent free or reduced lunch so a lot of my students face challenges outside the classroom when it comes to their needs being met. My classroom becomes a safe zone for a lot of the students because they know that myself and the rest of the staff are working hard to help them. I specifically teach reading, writing, and language. The students love to move around while they do their work. One of the biggest things I try to teach my students is just to love learning all together and look at it as an opportunity to better themselves.

My Project

In our classroom we currently have soft-white fluorescent lights and because we are windowless we are required to have our lights on throughout the day. It has been proven that these bulbs cause stress to the eyes, headaches, and anxiety which directly interrupts focus and learning. These covers will create a more calm classroom by lessening the glare from the overhead lights. We do a lot of reading in my class so it is is my hope that the covers will help to improve attention and give the students an even greater chance of being successful on a day to day basis.
